Student Transportation Inc. Celebrates National School Bus Safety Week and Announces New Class of Inductees into Safety Wall of Fame
School Transportation Leader Continues Its Focus on Safety and Recognizes Employees for Outstanding Safety Accomplishments
WALL, N.J., Oct. 22, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Student Transportation Inc., a leader in school transportation, safety and fleet services, is celebrating the National Association for Pupil Transportation’s (NAPT) National School Bus Safety Week beginning today and running through October 26. NAPT’s annual campaign is an active and evolving public education program and an excellent way for parents, students, teachers, motorists, school bus operators, school administrators, and other interested parties to join forces and address the importance of school bus safety. The theme this year is ‘My Driver – My Hero!’
“While safety is our focus and number one priority throughout the year, National School Bus Safety Week provides us a great opportunity to partner with our customers and communities placing an emphasis on keeping students safe,” stated Shelly Hall, STI’s Vice President of Safety.
Building off of last year’s National School Bus Safety Week success with the introduction of a series of safety-themed videos for children from Pre-K through 12th grade, STI will host safety meetings with customers, parents and employees at the Company’s more than 170 locations throughout the United States and Canada.
STI’s focus this year during National School Bus Safety Week is on danger zones which are the areas around the school bus where drivers have limited or no visibility and where a child is most vulnerable to injury or fatality.
“We train our drivers year round on how best to keep kids safe on and around the bus,” added Hall. “This week is a good one to focus on some key areas like reducing danger zone risk with an emphasis on correct crossing procedures. We’ll continue to reiterate to our drivers how to give clear instructions to students about danger zones, discuss the importance of counting the kids away, knowing where the kids are and clearing mirrors before pulling away among other helpful tips to keep kids safe and out of harm’s way.”
This week the Company is also proud to announce the sixth group of inductees into STI’s prestigious Safety Wall of Fame recognizing those among the STI Family who are truly outstanding individuals, both at work and in their communities.
Employees were nominated by STI location managers from across the United States and Canada and held to the highest criteria of safety within their role along with extraordinary character. The fifteen inductees into this year’s Safety Wall of Fame will be recognized during a special ceremony in the spring with members of the STI Executive and Senior Leadership Teams in Charleston, South Carolina.
