How long have you been in the school transportation industry?
2017
How long have you been with Student Transportation of America?
I have been a part of the STA family since 2019 when they got the contract with Santa Rosa County.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I enjoy working with STA due to their concern over safety and doing what needs to be done in order keep the children safe. It is AMAZING to me that the thousands of kids that are transported to & from school daily and done so in such an efficient and safe manner as STA gets it done. I love my job in that I know I have a hand in the situation by keeping the buses rolling & safe.
What is something important about your job that others may not realize?
So, I believe honesty, integrity along with a strong code of moral ethics is the most important part of life. This also is true for the workplace, no matter what your job title is. I believe in building strong honest relationships with everyone in & out of the workplace. I also believe in doing so leads to better trust and faith from everyone that I deal with on a day-to-day basis.
Can you share a memorable story or experience from your time with STA?
Yes so, back in 2020 my mother passed away. The memorable experience was how uplifting STA employees were in consoling and putting together a nice sympathy card with all their signatures along with notes, this was something that I will never forget. Though it was sad to have lost my mother it was uplifting to have the support of the STA employees when I returned to work.
Every line of work has its ups and downs. What helps to motivate you during challenging times?
The fact that I like challenges helps a lot, then to know I am helping someone that needs me helps motivate me. I believe the combination of these two things alone is enough to motivate anyone who enjoys helping people. It gives you a sense of achievement when someone needs something done and you are the one they come to for that support. That’s what motivates me.
What advice or encouragement would you offer to someone considering joining the STA Family?
I would say this is a fulfilling job, you are appreciated for what you do. You get to work on the most sacred vehicles on the road, the ones that haul the most precious cargo known. You also get to learn just how impressive STA is in the day-to-day operations from the drivers, bus monitors, dispatch, driver supervisors and of course the shop side who keeps the buses safely running, it is truly amazing to see all this come together and operate as smoothly as it does. So, if you wanted to be a part of a family type atmosphere of great caring people this is the job for you.
