Pearson Named President of Student Transportation of America Education Foundation
CARNEGIE, PA – Peter J. Pearson, of Carnegie, PA, has been named president of the Student Transportation of America Education Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Student Transportation of America (STA), one of North America’s fastest growing school bus transportation providers.
Created in 2003, the mission of the STA Education Foundation is to advance educational opportunities available to deserving students enrolled in the school districts served by local STA companies. STA operates in 10 US States (California, Connecticut, Illinois, Maine, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Vermont) and Ontario, Canada.
Pearson, currently chief operating officer for STA’s Central Region, is one of the founding trustees of the Foundation, which held its first fundraising event in 2004. Named the STA/John Finfrock Scholarship Golf Outing, the annual event honors John Finfrock, a long-time educator who has dedicated his life to serving students and Pennsylvania communities. The cornerstone of the Foundation’s fundraising efforts, the outing has raised more than $100,000 and provided $40,000 in scholarships to high school graduates from some of the 27 Pennsylvania school districts served by STA.
“Pete had the foresight to see the good work that the STA Education Foundation could do and he has been the driving force behind it since its inception, “said STA Chairman and CEO Denis Gallagher. “We have a history of long-term relationships with school districts and the children they serve. We are invested in their safety and their success and our Foundation’s scholarships are tangible expressions of that investment. Our Foundation representatives are always there to present the awards which are greatly appreciated by the students and their families. “
Prior to assuming his current position, Pearson served as vice president of operations for STA in Pennsylvania since 1997. He began his transportation career more than 23 years ago at FedEx. In 1991, he was named director of operations for Laidlaw Transit in Sea Girt, NJ, and later served as director of business development for four southeastern states.
A graduate of Gannon University, Pearson holds a B.S. in Business Administration. He currently is involved in many community and business associations including the Pennsylvania School Bus Association, the Pennsylvania Association of School Business Officials and the Pennsylvania School Board Association. In addition, he serves on the Board of Directors for YMCA Camp Kon-O-Kwee and the Gannon University Pittsburgh Alumni Annual Scholarship Golf Outing. Pearson also is founder and trustee of the STA Education Foundation and chairman of the annual STA/John Finfrock Scholarship Golf Outing.
