Michael Kennedy Named Regional Chief Operating Officer For Student Transportation Atlantic Region
The move is part of the company’s strategic management realignment to prepare for continued growth in the $15 billion school transportation industry. STA currently operates more than 5,000 school vehicles transporting students in 10 states and Ontario, Canada.
Kennedy will be responsible for overseeing STA-owned school bus companies in New England and the Mid-Atlantic areas of the US including New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, Vermont and New Hampshire.
“A seasoned industry veteran, Mike has been instrumental in STA’s development and success for nearly 10 years,” said STA Chairman and CEO Denis Gallagher. “We are pleased that he has agreed to take on even more responsibility as we continue to grow our business through acquisitions, bids and school district conversions in 2008.”
Kennedy, who has served as vice president of operations for STA’s New England area since 1999, began his transportation career more than 35 years ago at Dunn Bus Corporation in Darien, CT. He moved to National School Bus Service in the 1970’s where he held increasingly responsible executive management positions, and later joined Vancom Transportation, serving as president of Vancom New York. Kennedy purchased New Hampshire’s Goffstown Truck Center in 1998, which he operated until it was acquired by STA in 1999.
A graduate of Boston College, Kennedy holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and political science. He also completed graduate management studies at the University of Southern California and the University of Connecticut. Kennedy also is a past Chairman of the Marketing Committee of the National School Transportation Association and a past board member of the New Hampshire School Transportation Association.
