Kyrie Geurts

Kyrie Geurts began her journey in the school transportation industry as a young mom seeking extra income to help her family navigate life’s challenges and opportunities. What started as a short-term role as a bus driver quickly turned into a fulfilling, two-decades long career. Today, Kyrie is the Vice President of Student Transportation for Pacific Western Transportation (PWT), a role she earned through years of dedication and a company culture that encourages growth at every level. She appreciates the opportunities and support that have become a core part of her story and reflects on PWT and the STA Family’s commitment to helping employees grow.

“[This company] actually cares about me and my growth as a person and professional.”

Kyrie’s journey up the corporate ladder was marked by hard work and new opportunities. After her first year as a bus driver, she stayed on as a dispatcher and began to see the potential for growth within the organization. When asked in an interview where she saw herself in five years, she jokingly replied, “I want your job,” setting her sights on advancing to management. From there, she worked her way through operations roles, benefiting from mentors and training resources along the way. Each role offered new skills, and with every promotion, her confidence and vision for leadership grew, supported by a leadership team dedicated to her development.

One of the turning points in her career came when PWT acquired a new company in Ontario. While sitting with her boss, she volunteered to take on the challenge, saying, “What about me?” This pivotal moment allowed her to demonstrate her commitment and capability on a larger scale. “It was a great learning opportunity,” Kyrie recalls, sharing how this experience helped her build critical skills that would prepare her for the road ahead. With an open-door policy and emphasis on cultivating talent within, it gave her the freedom to explore new roles and thrive under the mentorship of leaders who advocated for her growth.

“They [PWT/STC/STA] have developed a lifelong, dedicated employee because of that. They’re interested in my family and my progression and did a lot to help me build confidence in all these opportunities, and there were so many of them.”

Looking back, Kyrie’s fondest memories involve building relationships and mentoring others. She values the friendships she’s made and the chance to help others grow within the company, just as she was supported in her journey. She believes the organization’s commitment to its people and communities sets PWT and the STA Family apart, with a culture built on respect, trust, and support.

Today, Kyrie encourages anyone considering a path at STA to take the leap, confident that the company will stand by them every step of the way. “I never imagined myself in this position,” Kyrie says. “So, I say to those who are reading, if you want it, we will do our best to make it happen for you.” As she works toward completing her Executive MBA in early 2025, Kyrie is a testament to the STA Family’s dedication to its employees and the possibilities that await anyone willing to put in the work. Her story is a reminder that with the right support, a little courage, and a drive to grow, anyone can create a fulfilling career.

“Once you’re in [the industry], it’s in your blood and you really bleed yellow, so I say, put yourself out there.”
