Student Transportation Of America Education Foundation Announces Scholarships For Charleston Area Students
CHARLESTON, SC – The Student Transportation of America Education Foundation (STAEF), host organization for the 2009 Nationwide Tour Championship at Daniel Island, today announced the STAEF will award several new scholarships to Greater Charleston-area high school seniors this year. The money raised for Student Transportation of America’s (STA) Educational Foundation provides scholarships to students where the company provides school transportation services.
“This year we decided since we were getting involved locally with the Daniel Island Club as the host organization for the Nationwide Tour Championship that we would expand our charitable program with a portion of the funds being earmarked for local Charleston area students. In addition, $21,000 was distributed to local charities and clubs in the area from the Tour Championship TICKETS Fore CHARITY™ program,” said Denis J. Gallagher, Chairman and Charleston resident.
TICKETS Fore CHARITY is a unique fundraising initiative designed to raise funds for local non-profit organizations in communities where PGA TOUR events are held. More than 30 local service clubs sold tickets to this year’s Nationwide Tour Championship tournament and retained 100 percent of the proceeds of the ticket sales.
This spring, the STAEF scholarship committee will be awarding (12) twelve $1000.00 cash scholarships to greater Charleston area high school seniors planning to continue their education and attend South Carolina colleges, universities, or technical schools. The Foundation will increase the scholarships as the company’s business grows in South Carolina. In a related announcement, Gallagher said the Company and Foundation opened a new national office on Daniel Island earlier this month to expand STA’s services with school districts in various Southeast states and for the Foundation to broaden its reach with helping students attend college.
The STA Education Foundation will again be the host organization for the Nationwide Tour Championship golf event in October at Daniel Island Golf Club and is encouraging local Charleston area businesses to participate with ticket sales and sponsorships. “If our sponsorships and attendance for the Tour Championship increases, we can help a lot more students and local families with the high cost of continuing education,” said Gallagher. “We know the community likes top quality golf events and we are pleased to help bring this event to the area which supports our Foundations efforts.”
Scholarship applications must be submitted by April 23, 2010 and can be downloaded from the STAEF and STA website at www.STAef.org and www.rideSTA.com.
